Artist James C. Christensen: To Grasp Bliss You Must First Let Go

Hold To The Rod, The Iron Rod by James Christensen

Hold To The Rod, The Iron Rod by James Christensen

Above his head is the iron rod.  It might not be big or flashy, but it leads straight to what he desires more than anything else:  happiness. His arms, filled with bags of precious possessions, cannot reach the iron rod.  He has a very important choice to make, but which one will he choose?

This is a painting that many of us can identify with, when we stop to reflect upon our own lives.  Do we put more value in the material possessions that potentially weigh us down with debt and provide only short-term gratification, or do we let go of our need for trinkets and toys and follow the more important path guiding us from above?

Hold to the Rod, the Iron Rod focuses on one of James’ ubiquitous, puffy-guy characters and reminds us of our daily dilemma.  The Hold to the Rod Remarque Edition features the hand-colored Remarque Choosing the Right, signed and numbered by the artist.  With this original Christensen design, we have the pleasure of discovering the choice our character has made.  On the ground around him lay much of his discarded baggage, proving to us that he has made the commitment to reach out and grab hold of what is actually important in life.
